This section (half a quarter) of the SIO202 sequence extends scalar waves (fluids) to vector waves in solids. Applications include radiation from earthquakes and what earthquakes tell us about Plate Tectonics. A laboratory exercise is centered on determing shear and compressional velocities from a small field experiment. Normally taught spring quarter.
