William Gaines

Captain Gaines retired from the Navy in July 1992 and assumed the position of MPL Assistant Director in January 1993. During his Naval career, Captain Gaines served on the submarines USS NAUTILUS (SSN 571), ANGLER (SS240), SEGUNDO (SS 398) and MACKEREL (SST 2), and as Commanding Officer of the submarines MARLIN (SST 1) and GUDGEON (SS 567).

Other submarine assignments included Submarine School Engineering Instructor, Operations and Intelligence Officer Submarine Group Five, Operations Officer Submarine Group Eight Naples, Italy, Executive Officer USS SPERRY AS12 and Chief Staff Officer Submarine Squadron 3. In 1983, Captain Gaines assumed command of the USS ST LOUIS LKA 116 in Sasebo, Jopan. In 1986, Captain Gaines assumed command of Amphibious Squadron Three. Other assignments included Executive officer NOSC, Chief of Staff Naval Surface Group Long Beach, California and Director of Wargaming Tactical Training Group Pacific.

At MPL, Captain Gaines manages the R/P FLIP program and is the Information System Security Manager for MPL's secure processing facility.
